EVTOL and Drones

Electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, drone projects, and the emerging field of urban air mobility. This category includes original research on eVTOL air taxi corridors in the San Francisco Bay Area — analyzing potential routes between NASA Ames Research Center and UC Berkeley, evaluating energy requirements for electric flight over that distance, and mapping where vertiports could realistically be placed given Bay Area geography and airspace constraints. That research was developed into a paper presented at an AIAA conference. You’ll also find a detailed build log for a custom drone designed for atmospheric data collection — covering frame design, motor and propeller selection, flight controller setup, and sensor integration for gathering weather data at altitude. The posts explore both the near-term practical applications of drones and the longer-term vision of electric aviation transforming short-range urban transportation.
